Protecting Children From Fire in Your Home

I know this is not a small business development article, however as most small businesses operate out of the home and have irregular hours, thus I thought this article relevant to keeping our families safe. Please take to look at this, it just might save your kids. Stan provided the article - so thank you Stan!

At first people refuse to believe that a strange new thing can be done, then they begin to hope it can be done, then they see it can be done - then it is done and all the world wonders why it was not done centuries before. (Frances Hodgson Burnett)

Protecting Children From Fire in Your Home.

The children are home alone. The eldest, a 13 year old, is babysitting. It is late and all the children are asleep. An electrical fire starts and as it should, the smoke detector very quickly detects the smoke and emits a shrill shriek. None of the children wake up. The smoke detector keeps on shrieking.

Studies have clearly demonstrated that children DO NOT HEAR the standard smoke detectors most conscientious persons have installed in their homes. Children do not hear the frequency that the alarms emit while they are asleep. Their brains are still developing and respond differently than an adult’s. Fortunately, the market has responded with alarms that use a human voice to warn of fire. These voice alarms the children respond to quite quickly. Quickly enough to get safely outside. Some of the alarms are programmable in the parent’s own voice, which children respond to the best.

I have found voice alarms for sale at Home Depot, which means they are also available elsewhere. If you want to learn more search “smoke alarms” on YouTube. In the meantime, if you have children invest in an additional alarm and install it in the bedroom area.
